Akwasi Poku (also known as Kwess) is a Director and Writer from South London whose work spans narrative and commercial projects with brands like Netflix, Apple, and FIFA and on acclaimed shows such as Black Mirror, Black Ops and The Kitchen.
His debut short film, LOCK OFF, supported by WE ARE PARABLE, premiered theatrically across 70 Odeon Cinemas and was selected for international festivals including Aesthetica Film Festival, Pan African Film Festival, and the BBC Comedy Festival. His second short film, The Therapist, was part of the prestigious BFI Network at London Film Festival cohort, spotlighting 15 of the UK’s most exciting emerging filmmakers and is currently featured on Virgin Atlantic flights worldwide.
Beyond his own films, Akwasi has worked on high-profile projects, serving as 2nd Unit Director for The Kitchen (Netflix) and Black Ops (BBC) and as a Directors Mentee on Black Mirror’s "Joan Is Awful," starring Salma Hayek and Annie Murphy. As a commercials director, he has delivered campaigns for a number of global brands and also for youth charity Impetus, raising £1.3 million for good causes. Akwasi is currently developing a slate of original feature films and IP projects across Film, TV, and Art.
